Losses incurred by Moldovan fruit producers from the recent April frosts are estimated at approximately 741 million lei - Moldova Fruct

This was reported by representatives of the Moldovan Fruit Producers and Exporters Association at a meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry. The parties discussed the two waves of frost in April this year, which seriously affected the condition of the country's orchards. As noted, the frosts led to huge losses in cherry, apricot, plum, peach, cherry, apple, and pear orchards and table grape plantations, and the costs of maintaining orchards in 2025 and expenses that will not be covered by this year's harvest are estimated at 741 million lei. The consequences of this phenomenon could lead to a decline in farmers' incomes due to crop losses, which would negatively affect fruit exports and threaten the development of rural communities. In view of the dramatic situation, Moldova Fruct representatives have asked the Ministry to complete its assessment of the damage caused by the frost and to provide compensation to the fruit producers affected. They also requested that the Agency for Intervention and Payments in Agriculture (AIPA) pay contributions to subsidize orchards; ensure payments for applications submitted in 2024-2025; subsidize investments initiated in 2024-2025; include specific measures to support agriculture in the reform agenda of Moldova's Growth Plan for 2025-2027. In response, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development assured that measures to mitigate the effects of bad weather would be studied and adopted within the next two weeks. // 13.05.2025 – InfoMarket.
