Moldova intends to increase exports of wines and other products to China and to cooperate in the production of modern agricultural machinery
This was stated during a meeting held by Moldovan Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Ludmila Catlabuga and Chinese Ambassador to Moldova Yan Wenbin. The Agriculture Ministry said that, during the meeting, the sides discussed prospects for improving bilateral trade relations, participation in international exhibitions and development of cooperation to modernize Moldova's agricultural sector. An important topic of the meeting was the cooperation in the production of modern agricultural machinery, by using the capacities of the Mecagro Institute of Agricultural Machinery. Referring to the wine sector, the head of the Agriculture Ministry said that Moldova is developing in the right direction, while the winemakers continue to invest in quality and innovation, ensuring the uniqueness of Moldovan wines' flavors. “Winemakers have already passed important stages of modernization and consolidation of the sector, which allows us to increasingly assert ourselves on the international markets,” Ludmila Catlabuga said. It was noted that the trade relations between Moldova and China have significantly developed in recent years. While in 2021, the bilateral trade volume amounted to $849 million, with China becoming Moldova's 4th largest trade partner, in 2023, the mutual trade volume between Moldova and China exceeded $1 billion. The wine sector is the most important pillar of cooperation between the two countries. In June 2023, Moldova and China signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on the development of this sector. The document envisages strengthening partnership, developing platforms for dialogue and cooperation, as well as organizing the exchange of experience in agricultural policy, technological innovation, trade, culture and tourism. // 10.02.2025 - InfoMarket.
