Moldova received $264 million from IFAD under 8 financing agreements to support farmers and develop rural infrastructure

This was discussed during a meeting that the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ludmila Catlabuga held with the Country Director of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Moldova Samir Bejaoui and the Director of the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation of IFAD Programs (UCIP IFAD) Iurie Usurelu. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, during the discussions, the progress of projects implemented with the support of IFAD, as well as areas of cooperation for the near future, were discussed. The head of the Ministry of Agriculture Ludmila Catlabuga emphasized that IFAD projects have benefited farmers by providing access to financial resources, entrepreneurial education, and supporting increased resilience to climate change. "To date, the projects implemented with the support of IFAD have brought tangible results. “It is important to strengthen this cooperation and develop new initiatives that meet the interests and needs of our farmers,” said the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry. As noted, the Government of Moldova received IFAD assistance under 8 financing agreements for a total of about $264 million, which contributed to reducing rural poverty, supporting farmers and developing rural infrastructure. Among the key achievements of IFAD in Moldova are: financing more than 6,000 investment projects for a total of $200 million, which resulted in the creation of more than 20,000 jobs; modernization of rural infrastructure by rehabilitating roads, reservoirs and irrigation systems; launching digital platforms and solutions for farmers’ access to markets and finance; creation of 11 field schools and 15 demonstration sites designed to train farmers and test sustainable methods. Currently, IFAD also supports the “Improving Capacity for Rural Transformation (IFAD VIII)” project, focused on youth, women and smallholder farmers, with a total budget of $48.44 million.// 06.02.2025 — InfoMarket
