The 46th World Congress of Vine and Wine (OIV) will be held in Moldova from June 16 to 20
The Ministry of Agriculture announced this, noting that the concept of this event was presented in Paris during a meeting attended by diplomats, international experts and representatives of the wine industry. State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry Andrian Digolean said that Chisinau will thus become the world capital of viticulture and wine from June 16 to 20, and if 10 years ago it was only a dream, today it has become a reality. He commended the progress made by the Moldovan wine industry over the last 10 years, stressing that Moldovan wines are now exported to more than 70 countries and have won more than 7,000 prizes and medals at international contests and tastings. Moldovan Ambassador to France Corina Calugaru said that Moldova is honored to be the world capital of vineyards and wine from June 16 to 20. “This event is meant to support and inspire the industry and its enthusiasts, who in recent years have managed to turn this sector into a leading one,” the diplomat said. She praised the efforts of the Moldovan producers to develop and modernize the sector, which today contributes significantly to the national economy, and stressed the uniqueness of the Moldovan wines thanks to the diversity of varieties characteristic only for this region. Thus, the World Congress of Vine and Wine (OIV) in Moldova will contribute to the establishment of new partnerships, as well as will change the position of our country on the world map of quality wines. In this context, Corina Calugaru invited all those present to discover the Moldovan wine route, included in the cultural route Iter Vitis - Les Chemins de la Vigne. The Director General of the International Vine and Wine Organization, John Barker, said that the theme of this year's event fully reflects the organization's strategic priorities: “CHARTING THE FUTURE OF VINE AND WINE: EMBRACING RESILIENCE, ELEVATING VALUE, FOSTERING INNOVATION”. “For me, Moldova is a country with a special vocation for wine production. The wine sector is part of its economic and social structure, of the landscape and gastronomy of this place, of its very history”, said John Barker, inviting industry experts and researchers to participate in the congress. Stefan Iamandi, Director of the National Office of Vine and Wine, spoke about the 11 years of evolution and revolution of the wine industry in Moldova during a thematic presentation. The participants learned about the Moldovan winemakers' path to the highest quality standards and about the grape varieties and flavors specific only to our country: Feteasca Albă, Feteasca Regală, Feteasca Neagră, Rara Neagră, Viorica, Legend, etc., as well as about the wine varieties and flavors specific only to our country. // 06.02.2025 - InfoMarket
