In Moldova, grain import licensing may be extended until the end of 2024.
This was reported by the Ministry of Agriculture, noting that this was discussed during a meeting between the leadership of the agricultural department and a group of farmers - members of the “Power of Farmers” association, at which proposals for preventing and solving problems in the field of grain production were discussed. Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea confirmed that the ministry anticipated the needs of grain and oilseed producers by initiating legislative changes to continue measures to license grain imports after the maximum period for the Licensing Commission expired on June 26. “We are in the process of amending the law, which will allow the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry to intervene whenever there is an imminent risk or need on the part of the state and farmers,” said Vladimir Bolea. As previously reported, the Ministry of Agriculture announced on July 1 that, based on the ministry’s proposals, a project has been registered in parliament, according to which it will be possible to import wheat, corn and sunflower only on the basis of licenses until the end of 2024. The ministry’s proposals are to be discussed in parliament on Thursday. According to the Customs Service, since June 26, when the mandatory licensing period for grain imports expired, 22 tons of sunflower were imported into Moldova, which currently does not have a negative impact on the domestic market. In addition, there were no imports of wheat and corn during this period.// 02.07.2024 – InfoMarket.
