Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea claims that he has not yet received any requests from the protesting farmers.
“The Ministry of Agriculture has not received any requests and we are waiting to find out what it is all about. We here at the Ministry of Agriculture are always open for discussions; there are no restrictions of visiting days for farmers,” Vladimir Bolea said during the briefing. According to the minister, in 2020-2023 the government allocated 5.94 billion lei through AIPA, and from its intervention fund, 313.7 million lei were provided to farmers experiencing difficulties with payments. At the same time, the minister suggested that farmers change their business plans if they suffer losses for several years in a row. He mentioned drought-stricken farmers in the south of the country who produce grain for export. Vladimir Bolea noted that the problem recurs every year and for this reason an integrated approach is needed. “In the south, the amount of precipitation differs from the situation in the center and north, but farmers continue to sow crops that have not yielded crops for years. This fact suggests that the problem will continue this fall. Very clear recommendations are needed and will be given on which crops are suitable for which territories,” the minister said. Recall that dozens of farmers have been protesting throughout the country for several days. They say they do not have enough resources to start the new agricultural year and are angry that authorities have not intervened.// 13.02.2024 — InfoMarket
