200 million lei has been allocated from the Government Reserve Fund to assist farmers affected by the 2022 crises.

The government approved the relevant resolution at a meeting on Monday. In particular, 200 million lei will be transferred to the Ministry of Agriculture for the distribution of assistance to farmers through the Agency for Intervention and Payments in Agriculture. Prime Minister Dorin Recean noted that agriculture receives massive subsidies - more than 1.7 billion lei this year. “We want the agricultural sector to become more efficient and less vulnerable to external risks and impacts. The amount provided will help part of the farmers overcome financial difficulties,” the head of the Cabinet said, stressing that this assistance is the contribution of the whole society. Let us remind that, last week the government approved a decree on the procedure for providing assistance to farmers affected by the consequences of crises in 2022. Micro and small farmers who cultivate grain crops of the first group - wheat, barley, oats, triticale - on an area from 0 .5 up to 1500 ha will receive the one-off assistance. The amount of assistance will be determined depending on the total number of applications submitted by agricultural producers, using the beneficiary's categorization coefficient, depending on the area of cultivated agricultural land. The maximum amount of assistance per 1 beneficiary will be up to 400 thousand lei. The list of beneficiaries and the amount of assistance will be established by the Agency for Intervention and Payments in Agriculture based on the applications of small farmers. It is assumed that the allocated 200 million lei will support at least 3 thousand farmers. In 2022, small farmers suffered the most from various crises (deficit and increase in prices for fertilizers, higher energy prices, drought in the spring-summer of 2022, lower prices for grains and oilseeds in the regional market, etc.). // 21.08.2023 - InfoMarket
