The EU will consider providing support to Moldova's agricultural sector after assessing the damage caused by the war in Ukraine.
The Ministry of Agriculture reported this, noting that the relevant assurances were received by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea during meetings in Brussels with high-ranking representatives of the European Commission. In particular, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture from June 19 to 21, made a working visit to Brussels, where he held talks with European Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechovski, with Deputy Director General of the Directorate General of Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI) Mihaill Dumitru, with Elisabeth Werner, Deputy Secretary General of the European Commission and with Gert Jan Koopman, Director General of the Directorate General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR). Vladimir Bolea told them about the latest developments in the agricultural sector and presented the European officials with figures, conclusions and proposals for mitigating the economic impact of the war in Ukraine on the farmers in our country. Another topic touched upon by the Deputy Prime Minister was the inclusion of Moldova in the platform created by the European Commission to manage the grain crisis, along with 5 states (Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia). The purpose of the platform is to coordinate and optimize the transit and import of grain from Ukraine. European officials said that they would analyze and inform about the possibility of Moldova's inclusion in this format of cooperation. At the same time, the European Commission will study the calculations proposed by Moldova to determine the degree of damage to Moldovan agrarians as a result of the war in Ukraine. Based on the analysis, solutions to support the agricultural sector in our country will be considered. //22.06.2023 - InfoMarket.
