The agrarian sector forms 20% of Moldova's GDP and 40% of its exports, being the most important sector of the country - Vladimir Bolea.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry stated this at an event dedicated to the professional holiday of agricultural workers. He stated that agriculture is the most important sector in Moldova and the government is committed to support this sector. This sector employs 21% of the working population of the country and its contribution to the national GDP is 20%. Agricultural products (raw and processed products) account for 40% of Moldovan exports. Vladimir Bolea said that in recent years the sector has overcome serious crises - pandemic, price increase, deficit and rise in price of fertilizers, war in the region and difficulties in traditional routes of logistics and export, embargo imposed by Russia, significant drop in wheat prices, etc. At the same time, he stressed that thanks to reliable partners, such as Romania, USA and EU countries, the Moldovan farmers receive support in the form of investments, experience and knowledge. At the same time, the minister spoke about the support measures provided by the government. For example, the increase of the fund subsidizing farmers up to 1.7 billion lei, which, given their own contribution of more than 10.8 thousand farmers, is converted into investment of 5.6 billion lei. Assistance is provided in finding new markets, in addition to existing export markets of Moldovan fruits and vegetables. "Green" corridors are created at the border for exporters of fresh products. Regulatory and legislative changes have been made to simplify the work of farmers. Vladimir Bolea also mentioned the problem of personnel shortage in the agricultural sector - the average age of workers is 53 years, and the government has plans to promote specialized education in agriculture. He also touched upon the prospects that are opening up in the context of Moldova's obtaining EU candidate country status. Agriculture and Processing Industry Workers’ Day has been celebrated annually at the end of November since 1994. // 25.11.2022 - InfoMarket.
