Rosselkhoznadzor denied the political background of the ban on supplies of plant products from some regions of Moldova to Russia.
According to the press service of the Service, the decision of Rosselkhoznadzor to limit the delivery of vegetable products from certain regions of Moldova to Russia is based on solid evidence and there is no political motive behind this prohibition. This is how the Rosselkhoznadzor commented on the statement made by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova, Nicu Popescu, who believes that Russia's ban on the import of fruits and vegetables is related to politics. According to Rosselkhoznadzor, 10 quarantine objects were detected in 80 batches of Moldovan products in 2021. Rosselkhoznadzor repeatedly notified the Moldovan side about the violations and asked to take urgent corrective measures, but the supply of unsafe products continued. In July 2022 three insect species (Oriental Fruit Moth, Oriental Fruit Fly, Mediterranean Fruit Fly), one disease (brown monilinia rot) and one weed were detected in 13 consignments of products. Quarantine objects were detected in cherries, sour cherries, apples and peaches. "Rosselkhoznadzor applies equivalent measures to all countries that are not willing to comply with Russia's phytosanitary requirements when supplying products. Ensuring phytosanitary well-being of Russia is a priority for the department, the spread of these objects can cause irreparable economic damage to fruit growing in the country," stressed Rosselkhoznadzor. Earlier the agency reported that as of August 15, it temporarily banned imports of regulated plant products from 31 districts of Moldova, Gagauzia, Chisinau and Balti municipality into Russia. // 12.08.2022 – InfoMarket
