
The implementation of the Food Security Strategy for 2023-2030 will cost 5.16 billion lei.
This strategy, developed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, is a long-term policy document and covers the government's priorities to ensure food security, develop sustainable food systems and risk management in case of crisis situations at the international level. The strategy promotes the principles of responsible production and consumption and aims to fight hunger and poverty. The strategy aims to improve food security governance, facilitate international trade in agrifoods and agricultural commodities, develop an effective and reliable local market, increase productivity and production of the agri-food sector, and develop mechanisms to reduce food insecurity risks among vulnerable groups. According to the project, it is planned to create an inter-ministerial working group in the field of food security, to develop an electronic platform for data management on food stocks, to ensure coordination with the countries of the region and especially with Romania and Ukraine regarding the replenishment of fertilizers, fuel, seeds and grains. By the end of March 2023, it is planned to implement and possibly expand the RM-EU agreement on the liberalization of cargo transportation to facilitate the transit through EU countries; road corridors with Romania and Ukraine will be developed, including the construction of new road bridges; railway infrastructure will be developed to facilitate the transit of grain through the port in Constanta. Some measures include more active development of market infrastructure to organize markets and fairs, with greater participation of SMEs, it is planned to strengthen the cooperation of the Ministry of Agriculture with the Competition Council to ensure compliance with anti-competitive legislation in the agricultural sector. It is planned to develop mechanisms of exploitation of unused agricultural land, information in the field of weather forecasting will be systematized to prevent damage from climate change. Moldovan authorities plan to promote healthy eating and moderate food consumption, including the "One Fruit a Day" program, and to update the average annual food consumption rate and the cost of living. The development of food banks will also be promoted, in order to reduce food wastage and spoilage. The implementation of the strategy will require about 5.16 billion lei, which will be allocated both from the state budget and other legal sources of financing. // 02.08.2022 - InfoMarket
