The Forța Fermierilor Association announced a protest on June 21 in several parts of the country.
According to the organization, a week after applying for support to the government and parliament, the demands of farmers remained unanswered. “Unfortunately, the prime minister did not find time to talk with representatives of our organization, and a working meeting with the chairman of the parliamentary commission on agriculture and food industry did not produce results. Moreover, last week the situation of farmers in the country worsened. There is practically no wholesale market for diesel fuel, prices are approaching 33 lei per liter, and fertilizers have risen in price to 24 thousand lei per ton. In less than a year, fuel prices have risen by almost 300% and fertilizer prices by 400%. At the same time, many agrarians still have stocks of agricultural products, since exports were banned due to stagnation in the market that arose after the actions of a narrow group of grain and sunflower importers from Ukraine,” the association said. Forța Fermierilor emphasizes that only due to the increase in prices for resources needed by farmers, the national budget received more than 3.6 billion lei in 5 months of this year, but, in addition, the country received assistance from external partners. “Agrarians are perplexed why at least a small part of this income cannot be allocated to the agricultural sector. To return the entire amount of excise taxes on all diesel fuel purchased by small and medium-sized farmers in 2022, only about 150 million lei are needed additionally,” the association specified. The organization's statement says that the organized protest action on June 21 is of an economic nature, and any attempt to involve political forces in the protest will be stopped. Farmers, however, are still ready for dialogue with the authorities. // 20.06.2022 — InfoMarket
