
Moldovan red wine is recognized as the best wine in the world at one of the most prestigious competitions, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.
The wine won the Grand Gold Medal, beating out 5,084 red wine samples from around the world exhibited at the competition. Fautor's 2017 Negre wine is a blend of two Moldovan varieties - Fetasca Neagra and Rara Neagra - aged for 12 months in oak barrels. This wine also won gold at other competitions: Mundus Vini, Berliner Wein Trophy, etc. Its retail price is 370-400 lei (17-20 euro). At the Brussels competition Moldova ranked 9th in the world in the total number of medals, and in South-East Europe our country is the leader in the number of medals. Moldovan wines won 2 big gold medals; 20 gold and 31 silver. The second wine to win the Grand Gold Medal in Brussels in 2022 is Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 from Purcari. All wines were tasted blind (without knowing the country, producer or price) by international wine experts representing 45 countries. Less than 30% of the registered wines received medals.
