The wheat harvest in Moldova this year, according to forecasts, will be 800-900 thousand tons.
This was announced by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry of Moldova Viorel Gherciu, speaking to the deputies of the Parliament. According to him, in addition, approximately 100-130 thousand tons of wheat will remain from last year's harvest, so in general the country will have between 950 thousand and 1 million 050 thousand tons of wheat. At the same time, to ensure the food security of the country, 660 thousand tons of grain are needed for domestic consumption. Regarding the future prices for bread in Moldova, Viorel Gherciu expressed hope that they would not rise, but noted that no one can give an accurate forecast on price dynamics now. The head of the Ministry of Agriculture recalled that last year a record grain harvest was harvested, but no one could predict that record prices for grain and other agricultural products were expected in the future. As InfoMarket agency previously reported, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, the gross harvest of wheat in Moldova in 2021 amounted to 1 million 558 thousand tons and increased by 2.7 times compared to the previous year. // 16.06.2022 — InfoMarket
