The Ministry of Agriculture of Moldova called on citizens to rationally and effectively manage land resources and adhere to the principles of sustainable agriculture.
This was stated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry in the context of the Earth Day celebrated today in our country, as well as throughout the world, designed to promote the global promotion of environmental protection and preservation. The motto of this year's Earth Day is "Invest in our planet". The purpose of the event is to draw public attention to the importance of protecting the environment and encourage people to take action to reduce air, water and soil pollution, responsibly manage natural resources, prevent the dangerous consequences of global warming, increase forest areas, etc. According to statistics, the total land area in Moldova exceeds 3 million hectares, including about 2 million hectares of agricultural land. The soil cover is one of the most important natural resources, the main national wealth of our country. In this regard, the Ministry of Agriculture calls on citizens to rationally and efficiently manage land resources, as well as to comply with the principles of sustainable agriculture. Herewith, the agency encourages citizens to participate in volunteer activities for sanitation, landscaping, beautification, learn about the impact of their actions on the environment, reduce waste, recycle, help find solutions to accelerate the transition to a sustainable development model, and spread messages about the importance of protecting the environment. Earth Day was proclaimed by US Senator Gaylord Nelson in 1970 to arouse the interest of the political class in the environment. Earth Day was celebrated in the first year by about 20 million American citizens. Later, in 1990, 141 countries turned Earth Day into a major event. In 2009, the United Nations declared April 22 the official holiday of planet Earth. //22.04.2022 — InfoMarket.
