Moldovan authorities to elaborate a new National Strategy for the Agriculture and Rural Development for 2021-2030.

Moldovan authorities to elaborate a new National Strategy for the Agriculture and Rural Development for 2021-2030.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and the Environment reported this, noting that it initiated the elaboration of this document. The meeting held in the Ministry of Agriculture discussed the final evaluation report of the previous strategy, analyzed the results and identified the needs for improving the policy context for the new National Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development. The meeting participants assessed the National Strategy for the Agriculture and Rural Development for 2014-2020 in light of the four key dimensions of the actions taken: relevance, effectiveness, efficiency and impact. In this context, it was found that in terms of financial coverage in 2014-2020 there were sufficient financial resources to achieve the goals set by the Strategy, but the main problem for the agricultural sector, both during the implementation of the Strategy and in the subsequent period, is the climate change and its harmful consequences. During the meeting, Minister of Agriculture Ion Perju noted that for the new Strategy it is important to ensure the continuity of initiatives implemented with the support of development partners. According to him, in 1994-2020 about 40 international donors have contributed to the development of the agro-industrial sector, rural areas and the ecological environment of Moldova. International donor programs and projects have had and continue to have an important impact both on the development of the agro-industrial sector and on building institutional capacity for strengthening, which is undoubtedly one of the key points in reforming the sector. “The new Strategy will ensure the alignment of national agricultural and rural development policies with the goals of the Common Agricultural Policy: ensuring a stable and equitable economic future for farmers; setting big ambitions for environment and climate action; keeping agriculture at the heart of Europe’s society,” stressed Ion Perju. At the same time, the minister said that among the priority actions of the National Strategy for the Agriculture and Rural Development for 2021-2030 will be the following: provide a decent income for farmers; combating and mitigating climate change; support for generational renewal; increasing competitiveness; ensuring environmental protection through agro-ecological schemes; dynamic development of the village; restoring balance in the food chain; landscape conservation and biodiversity; food quality protection and health. At the same time, those responsible for the development of the document noted that priority is still given to the planned directions: reducing poverty in rural areas by creating favorable conditions for increasing the incomes of the poorest members of rural society; increasing the competitiveness of the agri-food sector; adaptation of agricultural producers to climate change; stimulating the growth of strategic and business agricultural activities in rural areas. The Ministry of Agriculture invited the civil society to participate in the development and implementation of the Strategy along with non-governmental organizations; academic environment; Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova and partner institutions. //12.07.2021 - InfoMarket.
