
In Moldova, the number of cattle in households continues to decline, reaching its lowest level in 40 years.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in particular, as of April 1, 2021, the number of cattle in the country in all categories of farms amounted to 108.5 thousand heads, which is 9.9% less than on the same date a year earlier. Herewith, the number of cattle at agricultural enterprises increased by 12.3% - to 17.6 thousand heads, and in households - decreased by 13.3% - to 90.9 thousand heads. According to official statistics, the number of cows as of April 1, 2021 was 72.2 thousand heads, which is 11% less than a year earlier. At the same time, the number of cows at agricultural enterprises increased by 16.5% - to 5.7 thousand heads, and in households - decreased by 12.8% - to 66.5 thousand heads. It should be noted that, according to 1980 data, there were a total of 1 million 150 thousand head of cattle in Moldova, including 429 thousand head of cows. According to the NBS, as of April 1, 2021, there were 376.1 thousand pigs in all categories of farms in the country, which is 5.5% less than a year earlier. Meanwhile, the number of pigs at agricultural enterprises decreased by 1.5% - to 230.2 thousand heads, and in households - decreased by 11.2% - to 145.9 thousand. The total number of goats and sheep as of April 1, 2021 amounted to 644.5 thousand heads, a decrease of 6.8%, compared with the same date of 2020. Their number in agricultural enterprises decreased by 3.6% - to 24.2 thousand heads, and in households - decreased by 7% - to 620.3 thousand.
