In Moldova, cash compensation for the cold season will begin to be paid out on December 12: out of 783,000 applications, 605,500 (77%) were approved
Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Natalia Plugaru, announced this at a press conference on Friday, presenting the results of applications for participation in the Ajutor la Сontor (Help at the Meter) cold season compensation program. According to her, 605,538 households, which have been approved for state financial support during the cold season, cover more than 1.2 million citizens. The analysis of applications for compliance with the criteria included thorough checks by comparing information with 12 state and private databases, including the State Tax Service, the National Social Insurance Office, the Border Police, banks, etc. About 287,000 beneficiary households use solid fuel (wood and coal) for heating, 169,000 use natural gas, 106,000 are connected to centralized heating networks, and 42,000 use electricity as their main source of heating. According to Natalia Plugaru, 400,000 beneficiaries are pensioners, 340,000 are households with children, 23,000 families have people with disabilities, and 11,000 have unemployed members. At the same time, about 53% of families will receive the maximum assistance - 800 lei for those who heat with wood and 1,000 lei for households that use other types of energy. About 23% of beneficiaries will receive average compensation, and the rest will be assigned a minimum payment of 500 lei. Payments will be made monthly throughout the heating season. Beneficiaries who have provided their bank details will receive their compensation payment today. Poșta Moldovei branches will begin paying compensation on December 15; beneficiaries must present their ID to receive it. According to estimates by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, approximately 2.3 billion lei will be needed to pay compensation this heating season, which will be allocated from the state budget. Citizens who disagree with the amount of compensation can contact the program's hotline at 0 8000 5000 or write to suport@compensatii.gov.md. At the same time, Natalia Plugaru clarified that compensation in electricity bills will cease from the new year. This was a temporary measure implemented with the support of the EU, and now the state is focusing on targeted support for families in need. Other decisions, including in the context of a possible increase in electricity prices, will be made depending on the circumstances. // 12.12.2025 — InfoMarket
