Moldova plans to introduce mandatory identification of prepaid mobile service users

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced the start of work on draft amendments to legislation aimed at introducing mandatory identification of users of prepaid mobile services. In particular, it is proposed to require citizens to present an identity document when purchasing SIM cards and to register the cards in the name of the purchaser. The aim of the project is to amend the regulatory framework for the registration of prepaid card users by providers of publicly available electronic communications networks in order to support their identification in measures to prevent and combat crime.
