Moldova’s Railway Transport Code will be amended to ensure more efficient management of the railways
This is provided for by the relevant amendments to the Railway Transport Code, passed by parliament in its first reading. In particular, it is proposed to distinguish between real estate that is part of the railway infrastructure — buildings and spaces that are necessary for the operation of the railway network, such as for power supply, communications, signaling, or traffic control. This will allow for more efficient administration of expenses, reducing unnecessary ones. At the same time, according to the draft, the future administrator of the railway infrastructure will be exempt from paying rent or other taxes on state assets under its management. The money saved can be invested in the repair, maintenance, and modernization of railways, which means safer trains and better passenger service. The proposed amendments will complete the process of separating real estate assets related to railway infrastructure in the context of the reorganization of the state-owned enterprise “Railways of Moldova.” // 27.06.2025 — InfoMarket.
