Passenger traffic at Chisinau Airport in January-June 2024 amounted to 1 million 646.8 thousand people, which is a record figure for the first half of the year.
Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spinu announced this, noting that, compared to the same period last year, passenger traffic at the capital’s airport increased by 39%. One of the main reasons for this growth was the opening of new routes and an increase in the number of companies that resumed or started flights from Chisinau Airport. According to Andrei Spinu, forecasts show that the growth in passenger traffic will continue. “The flow of passengers will constantly increase. We continue negotiations with many airlines to expand the number of routes from Chisinau Airport. These figures confirm what we have repeatedly pointed out: the current airport infrastructure will no longer be able to cope with the growing flow of passengers. We are aware of the current congestion at the airport, which will increase as the number of passengers increases. There is only one way out: serious investment in the airport. For this reason, we have announced that we will conduct a feasibility study as soon as possible for the construction of a new terminal, parking lot, runway and other technologies necessary for the proper functioning of the airport. The necessary investments are estimated at 250-300 million euros,” emphasized the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development. // 03.07.2024 – InfoMarket.
