The Commission for Emergency Situations of Moldova decided to allocate 60 million lei through redistribution for the restoration of the Cahul-Giurgiulesti KM 74 railway line.

The Commission for Emergency Situations of Moldova decided to allocate 60 million lei through redistribution for the restoration of the Cahul-Giurgiulesti KM 74 railway line.

The decision was made on Monday, August 21, at a meeting of the CoES. This was stated by government spokesman Daniel Voda. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development will transfer the necessary funds to the Moldovan Railway, which is responsible for the implementation of the project. Recall that last summer the section was closed due to landslides that damaged about 350 meters of the railway line. Freight trains going to Giurgiulesti were heading along the Basarabeasca-Etulia-Reni line. As previously reported, the restoration of the Cahul-Giurgiulesti section may take at least 5 years. Danube Logistics CEO Mathias von Tucher previously stated that before this landslide incident occurred, all Moldovan importers and exporters used only this railway line, which provided a connection between Giurgiulesti and Cahul. After the damage to the railway section of Cahul-Giurgiulesti, companies transporting goods are forced to transit through the territory of Ukraine on a 30-kilometer section of the railway, which jeopardizes the safety of cargo and personnel. For the same reason, the import of goods from Russia by rail became impossible.// 21.08.2023 — InfoMarket
