In 2020, the volume of cargo handled through the Giurgiulesti port amounted to 934 thousand tonnes against 1 million tonnes a year earlier.
This figure was achieved despite a 50% decrease in grain exports last year and difficulties caused by the pandemic. According to Danube Logistics, this was discussed, among other things, during the visit to the Giurgiulesti port of His Excellency Mr. Roelof van Ees, the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Romania and the Republic of Moldova, and Mr. Floris van Eijk, Head of the Dutch Embassy Office in the Republic of Moldova. The Dutch diplomats' visit focused on operational and construction projects at the port. Danube Logistics CEO Mathias von Tucher noted that the Giurgiulesti port continues to support Moldova's international trade, despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic and, in particular, the reduction in grain exports by 50%, i.e. by 250 thousand tons compared to 2019, due to a poor harvest. Nevertheless, according to him, in 2020 the port handled 934 thousand tons of cargo, which proves the importance of unhindered shipment of goods by sea and river vessels for Moldovan importers and exporters. // 26.02.2021 - InfoMarket.
