The parliament can create a special commission to analyze the financial and economic situation at the railway and the results of the railway industry over the past 10 years.

A corresponding legislative initiative on the creation of a special commission to investigate the situation in the railway sector was registered in the parliament. According to the draft, the commission will hear all the responsible state bodies, parties and persons associated with the activities of the State Enterprise "Railway of Moldova" and the railway industry in general, and within 60 days will present the results of the hearings and the main conclusions. The explanatory note to the document notes that a critical financial situation has developed at the railway company. At the end of 2020, the accounts payable of the enterprise amounted to 459.4 million lei, of which 275.7 million lei - on a loan based on a contract for the purchase of diesel locomotives, 10.5 million lei were debts on payment for consumed diesel fuel, 18 million lei - debts to Termoelectrica, another 100 million lei - for the current expenditure on the operation and maintenance of the railway. At the same time, wage arrears amounted to 35.5 million lei, to the budget of social insurance and medical insurance - 26.9 million lei, to the state budget - 5.5 million lei. There is also a shortage of working capital as a result of the formation of accounts receivable, which at the end of December amounted to 275.4 million lei. It is emphasized that this situation on the railway was formed as a result of ineffective management in previous years, and also worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the volume of rail passenger and freight traffic decreased significantly both in Moldova and in neighboring countries. The legislative initiative on the creation of a special commission must be approved by the country's parliament. // 28.01.2021 - InfoMarket.
