The railway of Moldova is a strategic enterprise, necessary for the country's economy, and it cannot be liquidated - the management of the State Enterprise “Railway of Moldova”.

This was stated at a briefing on Monday by the first deputy director for strategic planning of the State Enterprise "Railway of Moldova" Vitalie Mucan, expressing the position of the enterprise's management on the problems of the enterprise discussed by parliament members and the general public, and the prospects for their solution, as well as plans for the development of railway transport in the country, reorganization and modernization of "Railway of Moldova". He noted that the situation at the enterprise is now far from being the best, but stressed that the situation began to deteriorate since 2009 and worsened for 10 years. Vitalie Mucan said that due to the actions of the former managers of the enterprise, and sometimes due to the lack of necessary actions on their part in situations requiring immediate intervention, real preconditions arose for the bankruptcy of the Railway of Moldova in 2019. However, according to him, after the arrival of the new leadership, an extensive program of reorganization and modernization of the enterprise was launched, which is bearing fruit and some progress has been made, despite the problems with the pandemic. The First Deputy Director for Strategic Planning of the Railway of Moldova noted that in 2020, with the support of external partners, for the first time in the last 30 years, 12 new locomotives were purchased, without which the Railway of Moldova would have no future. In addition, with funds from the EBRD and the EIB, infrastructure will be restored on the Bender-Basarabeasca-Etulia-Giurgiulesti railway section, with a length of 233 km. The total project cost is estimated at 55 million euros. In addition, equipment for the railway will be purchased and the infrastructure for the Chisinau-Ungheni railway section will be restored, thanks to the support of the French government. Vitalie Mucan said that now the Railway of Moldova is consistently introducing a program for the development of the enterprise, calculated until 2031, which provides for the restructuring of the enterprise, contains the necessary financial forecasts, plans for investments. “The current management of SE“ Railway of Moldova ” is making titanic efforts to save the enterprise, introducing a program of its restructuring and modernization to ensure normal development. The current management understands how and where to go for the effective development of railway transport in the country, "- said the first deputy director for strategic planning of "Railway of Moldova". According to him, the position of the management of the enterprise is that the Railway of Moldova is a strategic enterprise necessary for the country's economy, and it cannot be liquidated, and there is no sense and logic in any speculations on this score. “We have a vision and a desire to change the situation at the enterprise for the better. But the company needs a new impulse for development, not barriers. The SE “Railway of Moldova” is very important for the economy of Moldova and, in general, one should not turn the discussions about the enterprise into a polemic that has nothing to do with the interests of the SE “Railway of Moldova” or the interests of the country as a whole in this area. We hope for understanding, and we assure that if no artificial barriers are created, the State Enterprise "Railway of Moldova" will return to the normal course of development, "said Vitalie Mucan.// 08.02.2021 — InfoMarket.
