Moldova will introduce the collection, sorting and subsequent recycling of components of discarded cars.

Moldova will introduce the collection, sorting and subsequent recycling of components of discarded cars.

This is stipulated by a regulation approved by the government on the management of used vehicles. The approved document creates a regulatory framework for the reuse of metals and car components, the recovery of old car parts and the stimulation of a closed-cycle economy. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, from 2004 to 2018, the number of cars in Moldova increased 2.2 times, from 396,300 to 872,100. At the same time, in 2014. 68.5% of cars in Moldova were older than 10 years, and in 2018 – 79.7%. This has an adverse effect on the environment, and in order to reduce this impact, it is proposed to organize the collection, recycling and disposal of components of end-of-life vehicles. All related activities will be borne by manufacturers and importers and will be implemented in two stages. So, by January 1, 2025 economic agents must ensure the reuse and recovery of 85% of the average weight of all vehicles out of service, and by January 1, 2028 this figure should be brought to 95%. Specifically, a network for the collection/recycling of end-of-life vehicles will be established, and the reuse and recycling of vehicle materials and components will be expanded. The decree adopted by the government will enter into force one year after publication in Monitorul Oficial (the Official Journal of Moldova). // 28.02.2023 - InfoMarket
