Moldovan Parliament ratifies the Intergovernmental agreement on the land plot earmarked for the construction of a new U.S. embassy building in Chisinau.
The document was ratified by 55 MPs from the ruling PAS party. The intergovernmental agreement between the governments of Moldova and the U.S. on the land for the construction of a new U.S. Embassy building in Chisinau was signed on July 12, 2019, and its ratification grants the U.S. side the right to purchase the land for the new U.S. Embassy building on the former Republican stadium. It should be noted that the General Director of the Public Property Agency, Eugen Cozonac, and the U.S. Ambassador to Moldova, Kent Logsdon, recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the sale of the former Republican Stadium site in Chisinau, on which the new U.S. Embassy and a new public park will be built. Kent Logsdon said the construction of the new U.S. Embassy building is scheduled to begin by the end of 2024, it will take up to five years and the investment in the project will be $250 million. As noted by the Public Property Agency, in deference to the historic significance of the former Republican Stadium at the site, the U.S. will renovate and restore the historic gates, entrances and facilities associated with it and make them accessible to the public. Moreover, the U.S. intends to reserve a portion of the land for public park spaces, the design of which will be developed in collaboration with the Moldovan government and local design professionals. Also, the U.S. and Moldovan government will agree on a name for the park. The U.S. will also get the right to use part of the park's space for art exhibitions, organizing cultural events, including the installation of a statue or monument, or to hold similar events. // 05.05.2022 – InfoMarket
