The Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) will provide Moldova with a €5 million grant to make 15 schools more energy efficient
Specifically, this will include a grant agreement between Moldova and the Council of Europe Development Bank to implement the “Energy Efficiency in Educational Institutions of Moldova” project, which the government has endorsed. The Cabinet of Ministers has authorized the Minister of Education and Research, Dan Perciun, to sign this document. This grant from the Council of Europe Development Bank is intended for the renovation of 15 educational institutions selected for modernization in accordance with the concept of model schools. The work includes complete thermal insulation of buildings, installation of automatic temperature control systems and electricity meters, replacement of traditional lighting with energy-efficient lighting, and installation of solar panels. “We will continue to invest in education - this is a strategic necessity for Moldova,” said Prime Minister Dorin Recean. The project will modernize school infrastructure and provide students, especially those from low-income rural communities and overcrowded urban schools, with better learning conditions. These measures will also help reduce heat consumption by up to 60% and electricity consumption by approximately 30%. Approximately 12.8 thousand students and 800 teachers will benefit from the new conditions. Earlier it was reported that the Council of Europe Development Bank will also provide Moldova with a €30 million loan to modernize 15 educational institutions, which will become part of an expanded network of model schools. This will bring the total number of such institutions in the country to 50. The money will be used for major repairs, infrastructure upgrades, and the creation of modern conditions for students and teachers. The network of model schools is a project of the Ministry of Education and Research aimed at modernizing 35 educational institutions and transforming them into a model of infrastructure and learning. The initiative is supported by the World Bank, the European Union, UNDP, UNICEF, and other international organizations. The project is also backed by several private companies that have joined the initiative and are investing around 17 million lei in the network of model schools. // 09.07.2025 - InfoMarket
