Over the last 2 weeks, retail prices for gasoline and diesel fuel have increased in Moldova by about 3-4% - NAER
The National Agency for Energy Regulation (NAER) reported this, noting that the main reasons for the increase in fuel prices during this period were: the growth of Platts quotations on international exchanges by about 5%; the increase of excise tax on fuel from January 1 by about 7%, which will be applied gradually during 14 days; the increase of specific trade margin applied by oil companies from January 1 by 6 bani (+1.8%); the depreciation of the national currency against the US dollar by about 1.5%. NAER emphasizes that in the coming period the amount of excise duties and specific trade margin will remain unchanged. Accordingly, the energy regulator estimates that price fluctuations will partially stabilize and will depend only on international fuel quotations and the exchange rate of the national currency. NAER noted that on Monday, January 13, the price of Brent crude oil exceeded the threshold of $81 per barrel, reaching the highest level for the last 3 months. This growth is explained by the tough U.S. sanctions imposed on the Russian oil sector. The new restrictions affect key exporters, more than 180 ships and over 150 oil tankers, significantly reducing Russia's ability to supply major markets such as China and India. As a result, these countries are expected to diversify their oil sources by targeting other regions. Under these circumstances, for tomorrow, January 14, NAER set the following maximum retail selling prices for the main standard oil products: gasoline COR 95 - 24.12 lei/liter (+22 bani); standard diesel - 20.88 lei/liter (+20 bani). NAER assures consumers that the mechanism for calculating the daily fuel price is carried out in line with the trends on international exchanges, respecting the principles of transparency and fairness. //13.01.2025 - InfoMarket.
