Moldova in the first half of 2023, compared to the same period of 2022, reduced imports of energy resources and electricity in value terms by 13.7% - to $ 933.39 million.
These are the data of Moldova’s Balance of Payments for 6 months in 2023, released by the National Bank of Moldova (NBM). At the same time, in Q2 2023, imports of energy resources and electricity amounted to $327.9 million, which is 39.9% less than in the same period last year. The decrease in the indicator was due to the decrease in fuel prices on international markets. According to the NBM, in particular, in Q2 2023, compared to the same period last year, imports of diesel fuel in value terms decreased by 26.6%, from $301.62 million to $221.51 million, despite the 16.8% growth of diesel fuel supplies in physical terms. As NBM notes, this situation does not mean a decrease in gas consumption, but is due to the gradual consumption in the first and second quarters of 2023 of gas reserves purchased in the fourth quarter of 2022 and stored in Ukraine. At the same time, coal imports in Q2 2023, compared to the same period last year, decreased in monetary terms by half - from $4.68 million to $2.32 million, and in physical terms - by 36.8%. Electricity imports in Q2 2023 amounted to $11.03 million, down 25.2% from the same period last year, due to a 17.2% decrease in the physical volume of electricity imports and a decrease in the price. As follows from the NBM data, in general, in the first half of 2023, compared to the same period of 2022, Moldova increased imports of diesel fuel in value terms by 2.2% - from $455.84 million to $466.1 million, gasoline imports - decreased by 9.1% - from $133.85 million to $121.66 million, natural gas imports - decreased more than twice - from $407.9 million to $198.07 million, fuel oil imports - increased 16.5 times - from $3.88 million to $63.98 million, electricity imports - increased by 64.6% - from $14.74 million to $24.27 million, coal imports - decreased by 3.9% - from $8.2 million to $7.88 million.
