Investors from the Czech Republic are considering the possibility of building a new power plant in Moldova to balance the energy system.
State Secretary of the Moldovan Ministry of Energy Constantin Borosan announced this, noting that this and other plans to expand energy cooperation between Moldova and the Czech Republic were discussed during the Moldovan-Czech business forum held in Prague on October 16. The forum is held within a meeting of the Moldovan-Czech Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation. Presidents of the two countries Maia Sandu and Petr Pavel attended the forum as guests of honor. Within the event, a meeting was held with the largest Czech investor in Moldova - EMMA Capital Group - shareholder of the Premier Energy Moldova group of companies. The Czech investment group operates in the energy sector in Romania, Hungary and Serbia. Premier Energy in Moldova provides distribution and supply of electricity to about 70% of consumers. The participants in the discussions touched upon the country's plans to integrate into the single European energy market, the definition of a commercial operator of the electricity market, the construction of new energy connections with Romania and ENTSO-E, the digitalization of the energy sector, the predictability of the legislation, the evolution of the regulatory framework and its approximation to the EU norms. Constantin Borosan said that investments in distributed sources of electricity production from renewable sources have increased significantly in Moldova in recent years. There is already insufficient capacity in some parts of the networks and not all the power plants can be connected. This is a very clear signal that it is necessary to invest in increasing the capacity of the grid. The Czech investor gave assurances that the Premier Energy group of companies in Moldova is approaching this subject with priority, and the necessary measures will be implemented. Maia Sandu emphasized in her speech at the forum that the renewable energy is a priority for Moldova's development. In order to be able to move faster by investing in renewable energy sources, the energy system needs balancing power plants. The investor from the Czech Republic is interested in building such infrastructure in Moldova. Moldovan representatives have confirmed their support for the development of this project, which will provide numerous benefits to the energy system. "Investors in renewable energy will have a balancing act; we will be able to integrate more renewable energy sources; consumers will have an uninterrupted supply of electricity produced in our country; we will attract private investments in the energy sector. Investments in the energy infrastructure mean business opportunities, new jobs and economic growth," State Secretary of the Moldovan Energy Ministry emphasized. // 17.10.2023 - InfoMarket.
