Moldova has a chance to become a hub through which energy exchange between the European and Ukrainian markets will take place.
Energy Minister Victor Parlicov stated this while speaking before the members of the Parliament. He noted that for 30 years the country depended on a single source, it was blackmailed even by power cuts, but not a single kilometer of power lines was built in Moldova during this time. "After 30 years of hesitation, we managed to prove that it is possible to build the necessary infrastructure and give citizens confidence that everything will be fine in winter. We were told we would freeze, but that has not happened and will not happen. The idea was promoted that we could only get a good price for gas from Gazprom and that we had no other way out. But we survived the winter without buying gas from Gazprom - we bought it cheaper on the international market, and now we have reserves, and we are well prepared for the coming winter," emphasized Victor Parlicov. He said that, for the first time in history, Moldova is implementing two financial mechanisms that will benefit our citizens - subsidies for household consumers and energy efficiency improvements for public institutions. "Moldova has a chance to become not only a safe country in terms of energy imports, but also a hub through which energy exchange between the European and Ukrainian markets will take place," the Energy Ministry head said. // 20.10.2023 - InfoMarket
