Over the last 3 years, Moldova has made significant progress in connecting renewable energy production plants with a total capacity of 1550.34 MW.

Moldelectrica reported this, noting that in 2021, 33 applications for connection of renewable energy production plants were registered. Authorizations were issued for 18 of them, while 3 applications were included in the waiting list for connection requests. The total amount of approved capacity for connection of renewable energy production plants in 2021 amounted to 229.7 MW, of which 38.5 MW were solar photovoltaic plants and 191.2 MW were wind power plants. In 2022, Moldelectrica received 39 applications for the connection of renewable energy production plants. For 36 of them, approvals were issued, and 3 applications were placed on the waiting list for connection approvals at the request of potential producers. The total capacity approved for connection of renewable energy production plants in 2022 amounted to 833.2 MW, of which 273.73 MW were photovoltaic solar plants, 544.6 MW were wind farms and 15 MW were cogeneration plants. In the first half of 2023, the company has issued 25 power plant connection certificates with a total capacity of 724.4 MW. The capacity approved by the connection notices for each type of technology was 365.1 MW for wind power, 354.3 MW for solar PV and 5 MW for cogeneration power. Between 2021 and 2023, Moldelectrica responded to 14 requests regarding the lack of possibility to connect such installations to the transmission network at the time of the request, offering alternative solutions and the possibility to include the requests in the waiting list upon their request. Moldelectrica SE stated that, as the operator of the transportation system, it is not responsible and cannot oblige potential electricity producers to build wind, photovoltaic and/or cogeneration power plants, but it issues them notifications on connection, agrees on the methods of project implementation and approves connection contracts. The state-owned company said that so far the total capacity approved through issued/valid connection notices is 1,550.34 MW, of which 901.2 MW is attributed to wind farms, 644.14 MW to photovoltaic power plants and 5 MW to cogeneration power plants. // 08.08.2023 - InfoMarket
