The EU will provide Moldova with 105 million euros of additional support via the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund to assist in overcoming the energy crisis.
This was said by deputy head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Erika Hasznos at international conference "Tackling energy poverty in Europe: challenges, lessons learned and ways forward, Moldova’s Case" held in Chisinau and organized by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection with UNDP support in Moldova. She noted that in this way, the European Union will help Moldova to overcome the energy crisis and to compensate energy bills in the next heating season as well. Erika Hashnos recalled that last winter, the EU provided Moldova with a grant of 75 million euros to mitigate the socio-economic consequences of rising gas prices, especially for vulnerable groups. "For the winter of 2023-2024, another 105 million euros grant is being discussed. But money alone is not enough to solve the problem of energy poverty, we need a comprehensive approach," said Erika Hasznos. According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, during the heating season of 2022-2023, more than 760 thousand households in Moldova benefited from compensation for electricity, heat and natural gas. Financial means in the amount of 5 billion lei were provided for compensations to the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund, with the European Union's contribution of about 1.4 billion lei. // 30.06.2023 – InfoMarket
