In Moldova, 2 times more energy is consumed per square meter of a building than in the European Union - Ministry of Energy.
And in the absence of a mass industry, buildings are the main consumer of energy in the country, accounting for about 50% of final consumption. This was stated by Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov during the international conference "Fighting Energy Poverty in Europe: Challenges, Lessons Learned and Perspectives on the Example of Moldova", organized by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection with the support of UNDP in Moldova. He emphasized that in this regard, energy efficiency in buildings is a priority for the department to reduce the cost of electricity bills for the population, on the one hand, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, on the other. “Now is the right time to move away from tax subsidies for electricity and natural gas, which were subject to VAT at 0% and 8% respectively. If we tax this money, we can increase budgetary resources and offer targeted compensation to vulnerable consumers and invest in energy efficiency,” Victor Parlicov said. Through these energy efficiency measures, he said, the authorities will contribute to the achievement of poverty reduction goals, a greener economy and ensure that citizens are clearly aware of the benefits of EU integration. // 29.06.2023 — InfoMarket
