Energocom has completed one of this year's first auctions for the purchase of gas for consumption this summer and will buy it from 2 companies from Greece and Romania.
Victor Binzari, the Interim Director of Energocom, said this at a press conference on Friday, noting that the company in question is the Greek gas operator DEPA and another well known, serious company in Europe, which did not want to disclose its name. The gas is purchased in line with the TTF exchange price (reference price) + the cost of gas transmission to the border. For example, yesterday the TTF price was 27 Euro/MWh ($315 per 1000 cubic meters). Transportation costs will be added to it. "We are pleased to announce that we have expanded the range of partners with whom we cooperate. This allows us to diversify our sources of supply and have a greater degree of energy security, and for the consumer it means stability, security and lower prices," said Victor Binzari. According to him, part of the purchased volume will be used for current consumption, another part will be stored and a mandatory requirement was that bidders should have a certificate of origin confirming that the gas sold was not Russian, at the request of the Ukrainian gas storage operator. The procurement procedure was approved by the board of Energocom and the founder, the Public Property Agency, which set the volume of gas to be purchased and the maximum allowable price. A total of five bids were submitted for the auction. The purchase of gas is being made from Energocom's own funds. The company is also conducting other negotiations in order to be prepared for the next heating season. Energocom's Interim Director noted that due to the possibility of diversification of natural gas supply routes, the price for final consumers may be reduced in autumn. During the press conference, Victor Binzari responded to the accusations that have recently circulated in the public space. In particular, it was noted that the joint-stock company had last bought gas on January 19 and the fact that the gas stored in Ukraine, which had passed through customs, was subsequently consumed does not mean that it had been bought after January 19. "Claims that very large volumes were purchased last winter at the highest prices in Europe are false and manipulative. Almost 600 million cubic meters of gas purchased correspond to the forecasts of the profile ministry that they will be needed for the normal passage of the heating season, taking into account some measures to save gas and the transition of Termoelectrica to fuel oil. For each purchase decision, we can prove that it was a good opportunity at the time," Victor Binzari said. // 09.06.2023 - InfoMarket.
