The Moldovan authorities have developed the concept of the country's energy strategy until 2050.
The draft concept was presented at a press conference on Thursday by Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu and Secretary of State for Energy Constantin Borosan. The document provides for 5 strategic goals: improving energy security; development of competitive energy markets and regional integration; promotion of energy efficiency; development of sustainable renewable energy sources; consumer protection. To strengthen its energy security, Moldova will be able to use existing opportunities: the Iasi-Chisinau gas pipeline, which connected the gas transportation systems of Moldova and Romania; synchronization with the power system of continental Europe (ENTSO-E); granting candidate status for EU membership. “We plan to build new power plants in fully controlled territories. The energy balance will be revised and the use of renewable energy sources will be encouraged. Full technical, infrastructural and market integration into the European network will be promoted. To do this, it will be necessary to develop balancing and ancillary services. In the long term, the possibility of including the hydrogen and small nuclear energy in the energy balance is being studied,” said Secretary of State for Energy Constantin Borosan. The authorities plan to promote the energy efficiency of buildings and the concept of buildings with near zero energy consumption; use of alternative and environmentally friendly energy sources; introduce energy efficiency certification rules and energy audit rules, including public buildings and housing stock. It is planned to reduce the presence on the market of transport, which adversely affects the environment, and increase the share of rail and eco-transport. The concept of the strategy is proposed to be divided into two stages - until 2030 and for 2030-2050. According to Andrei Spinu, the construction of the Vulcanesti-Chisinau and Balti-Suceava power lines, the formation of strategic reserves of gas and fuel oil, the installation of individual heat supply control points, legislative changes in the field of renewable energy sources, the promotion of alternative systems are the tasks to be implemented in the next 6-7 years. He noted that the total cost of the measures envisaged in the concept cannot be estimated at this stage. But it is obvious that without the participation of external partners and donors, Moldova will not be able to cope. The Deputy Prime Minister also stressed that Moldova can no longer depend on only one source of energy, and 27 years is a sufficient period to switch to more efficient, environmentally friendly and cheap energy. The draft concept is published on the website of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development for public consultations. // 24.11.2022 — InfoMarket.
