Last week, the Moldovan HPP supplied about 45-50% of right-bank Moldova's electricity needs.

This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the Transnistrian government, Minister of Economic Development Sergey Obolonik after a meeting of political representatives and profile experts from Chisinau and Tiraspol. He noted that the additional amount of electricity, compared to the initially assumed level of 27% of the need, to which the supply was to be reduced, was provided by Moldovagaz by providing additional volumes of gas to the Transnistrian region. "Chisinau took measures to find additional volumes of gas, obviously due to savings. These volumes of gas are provided to us, and we use them to produce electric energy and we come to the parameters of about 45-50% of the needs of right bank Moldova. But this is what we can do only from the gas transmitted to us, to produce electricity, and nothing else. Since we do not have this resource," Sergey Obolonik said. The Deputy Chairman of the government added that the volume of electricity supplies could fluctuate depending on the specific amount of additional gas provided to Transnistria by Moldovagaz. As a rule, this volume was 500-700 thousand cubic meters per day. Sergey Obolonik also commented on the statement of Andrei Spinu, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, that Chisinau could cut gas supplies to Transnistria if the Moldovan HPP did not supply sufficient amount of electricity to Moldova. "Our colleagues should understand that if they reduce the volume of gas supply, we will have even less capacity to generate electricity. That is, we can't take such an unconstructive position," said Sergey Obolonik. As earlier reported, Gazprom has reduced gas supplies to Moldova by 30% in October compared to the same period last year. Because of the decrease in gas supplies, Moldovagaz has decided to proportionally reduce the volume of gas supplies to Transnistria. The gas shortage led to a reduction in production output and then to the suspension of the operation of the Moldova Steel Works (MMZ) and Ribnita cement factory altogether. Due to the situation in the energy sector, Transnistria for the first time in its history introduced a state of emergency in the economy. Priority in gas distribution was given to the population and social sphere. Starting from October 24, because of a shortage of gas used as fuel at the Moldovan HPP, electricity exports to right bank Moldova were reduced. Previously, the Moldovan HPP supplied 70% of the total amount of electricity needed by Moldova's right bank. // 31.10.2022 - InfoMarket
