The risks in the field of electric power are very small for Moldova, and in case of termination of supplies from the Moldovan HPP, electric power will be purchased in full from Ukraine, Andrei Spinu stated.

Andrei Spinu, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, said this while speaking on a private TV channel. "If the Moldovan HPP stops delivering electric energy to the right bank of Nistru River because of possible problems with natural gas supply, Moldova will increase the volume of electric energy purchase from Ukraine and is ready to buy 100% of the necessary volume of electricity from Ukraine," Andrei Spinu said. Spinu also said Moldova is already connected to the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E), which gives it the possibility to buy electricity from Romania or other EU countries. The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development admitted that the prices of electricity in the EU are very high, several times higher than in Ukraine, and therefore the first possible solution in case of stoppage of supplies from the Moldovan HPP would be to buy electricity from Ukraine at prices which are relatively good. According to him, there are far fewer risks for Moldova in the electricity sector as a whole, but they are obviously there because there is an ongoing war in the neighboring country, from which electricity is purchased. As InfoMarket news agency earlier reported, Energocom signed contracts for electricity supply in September at the same prices with the Moldovan HPP and the Ukrainian company Energoatom. Particularly, 67% of the necessary electric power will be supplied to the right bank of the Nistru/Dniester by the Moldovan HPP situated in the Transnistrian region and owned by the Russian company Inter RAO at $59.9 per 1 MWh, the same as in June-August. At the same time, Energocom will buy 30% of the electricity in September from the Ukrainian company Energoatom at $77 per 1 MWh, the same price as in June-August. In order to purchase 3% of the electricity to balance the peak consumption, a contract was concluded with the Ukrainian company Ukrhydroenergo, which will supply it at $100/MWh. As a result, the weighted average price of electricity in September will be $66.23/MWh, and the electricity tariff for citizens and the economy remains unchanged. The weighted average electricity price for August was $65.03/MWh. // 02.09.2022 - InfoMarket
