Energocom will be able to monitor and predict electricity production from renewable sources with the support of the EU and UNDP.
This was reported by UNDP in Moldova, noting that the central electricity supplier, Energocom, will be able to manage the forecasting of electricity production from renewable sources, which will reduce the individual imbalances of producers working under the contract. Specialized software that predicts the production of electricity from renewable sources will be developed for Energocom and contract manufacturers with the support of the program "Elimination of the consequences of the energy crisis in Moldova". In accordance with the rules of the electricity market, the central electricity supplier - Energocom - is responsible for the balancing group, consisting of thermal power plants and related power plants that produce energy from renewable sources, and Energocom is responsible for balancing. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, as of June 2022, photovoltaic power plants with a capacity of almost 25 MW, wind power plants with a capacity of 73.4 MW, biogas plants with a capacity of 6.3 MW and hydropower plants with a capacity of 16.3 MW were installed in Moldova. According to the new market rules that came into force on June 1, electricity is no longer sold ex post at the actual recorded values, but according to the values declared (forecasted) by the producers. Thus, the central electricity supplier is faced with the task of managing individual non-compliance contract generators. However, the energy purchased for balancing is regulated separately and, since its price is higher, this affects the final price for consumers. Acting General Director of Energocom, Viсtor Binzari, said that the company should develop a strategy for its development, as well as take other tough measures to improve the country's energy security: diversify electricity and natural gas suppliers, expand supply activities to foreign markets, support domestic electricity producers in order to reducing imbalances, etc. The program "Elimination of the Consequences of the Energy Crisis in Moldova" with a budget of 10 million euros is funded by the European Union and implemented by the UNDP. It will support the Moldovan authorities and vulnerable groups in the context of increasing natural gas prices. The program will contribute to reducing energy vulnerability through a program to encourage the replacement of old household appliances with new, more energy efficient ones, support for energy efficiency measures in residential buildings, and the installation of photovoltaic panels in a number of public buildings. // 17.08.2022 — InfoMarket
