Commercial exchanges of electricity with Ukraine/Moldova will start on 30 June - ENTSO-E.
The Transmission System Operators (TSOs) of Continental Europe has confirmed that the preliminary technical conditions for the first phase of commercial electricity exchange between Ukraine and neighboring countries have now been met. This follows the successful synchronization of the power systems on 16 March 2022 and the welcoming of Ukrenergo as observer member of ENTSO-E on 26 April 2022. These achievements are obtained following extensive work by all TSOs, and especially by Ukrenergo and the neighbouring TSOs of Ukraine. "The start of commercial electricity exchanges with the Ukraine/Moldova power system is planned for 30 June on the interconnection between Ukraine and Romania. The electricity trading on the other interconnections (Ukraine-Slovakia, Ukraine-Hungary, and Moldova-Romania) is expected to follow later," ENTSO-E said in a statement. As noted, the total capacity of trade in the first phase will be set at 100 MW. After the initial phase, a gradual increase in trading capacity will be evaluated regularly, based on considerations of power system stability and security. "This is an additional important step, less than four months after the emergency synchronisation of Ukraine-Moldova with Continental Europe, and furthermore demonstrates the strong commitment of European TSOs toward Ukrenergo and Moldelectrica," ENTSO-E said in a statement. It should be noted that the chairman of the board of NEC Ukrenergo Volodymyr Kudrytskyi said that Ukraine in a few days will start exporting electricity to the synchronous zone of continental Europe. "ENTSO-E confirmed on June 27 that Ukrenergo together with TSOs of neighboring countries successfully fulfilled six technical conditions to open the first 100 MW of electricity exports from Ukraine to Europe. Ukraine can also import this amount of European electricity if necessary," Volodymyr Kudrytskyi wrote. According to him, Ukrenergo will hold an open auction today for access to the interstate cross-section, in which all electricity producers and other participants will be able to participate. "This decision finally breaks the "aquarium" of the closed Ukrainian energy market and at the same time brings us closer to full integration into the European energy space", stressed the head of Ukrenergo. He noted that the timing of opening exports from the newly-connected ENTSO-E power system is an unprecedentedly quick decision. According to the synchronization agreement of 2017, commercial exports from the Ukrainian energy system were supposed to open only a year after the trial synchronization. Ukraine reached an agreement to open commercial electricity exchanges in three months. // 28.06.2022 – InfoMarket
