The Moldovan government is involved in negotiations with Gazprom on the extension of the contract for the supply of gas on the same terms
As Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita said on the air of public radio, even the preservation of the former advantageous formula for determining the price of "blue fuel" could lead to its rise in price in the country. “We are continuing negotiations with Gazprom to extend the contract on the same terms. There is no talk of negotiations on a new contract,” the head of the Cabinet of Ministers said. At the same time, she drew attention to the fact that given the global trend of a sharp rise in prices for natural gas, the cost of which in some countries has increased several times, even the advantageous formula used by Moldova under the current contract may lead to some rising prices for "blue fuel" for the country. However, as noted by Natalia Gavrilita, it will take some time before the increase in the purchase price affects the tariffs of end users, and in any case, to partially compensate for this increase, the government is preparing projects to help socially vulnerable categories of citizens. "The main thing is that the government takes measures to ensure that incomes of citizens grow faster than prices increase. The upcoming increase in pensions in percentage terms is much more significant than the rise in prices," the Prime Minister said. Speaking about the opposition’s statements, Natalia Gavrilita noted that “it is manipulating, knowing perfectly well the procedure by which the authorities operate. The government discusses with Moldovagaz, then Moldovagaz discusses with Gazprom on the basis of the position developed with the government. But the Cabinet of Ministers also communicates directly with the supplier. Thus, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spinu has already said that he had a conversation with the leadership of Gazprom, and the discussions are continuing, "the Prime Minister said.// 24.09.2021 - InfoMarket.
