Moldovagaz and Gazprom agreed to extend the contract for the supply of gas to Moldova, and the document was submitted for signing to the management of the Russian gas holding - Andrei Spinu stated.

Moldovagaz and Gazprom agreed to extend the contract for the supply of gas to Moldova, and the document was submitted for signing to the management of the Russian gas holding - Andrei Spinu stated.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development said this while speaking on the air of TVR Moldova, noting that the only issue to be settled is the term of the contract extension - for 1, 2, or 3 years. Spinu also mentioned that it is not yet clear what the price of gas will be, but stressed that the formula for determining the gas price for Moldova, preserved in the contract, is not bad. Andrei Spinu recalled that the contract for the supply of gas to our country expires on September 30, and urged not to politicize the topic of gas supplies to Moldova, which, in his words, should not be a matter of politics, but be a matter of national importance, which is based on commercial relations between the two companies - Moldovagaz and Gazprom. “The contract for gas supplies should be discussed between them. This is the responsibility of Moldovagaz, since it is engaged in this matter,” stressed Andrei Spinu. He noted that the contract is expected to be signed and transferred to ANRE in order to determine the new tariffs. Andrei Spinu urged to remain calm on this issue. “The existing formula for determining the gas price is not bad for Moldova. We are awaiting the completion of negotiations and the signing of the document, and then Moldovagaz and the government will provide all the information on the price,” stressed the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development. He admitted that the price of gas for consumers will increase, but it is not yet known exactly how much. “The formula for calculating the gas price is rather complicated. It is not based only on what is happening now in international markets, and we see what is happening there now. We see a significant rise in prices, in some countries gas has risen in price 2-4 times. But it's good that our formula in the contract is not strictly based on the price that is currently on the stock exchanges in Europe. We have two periods for setting prices. This is the IV and I quarter of each year and the II and III quarter. A differentiated tariff is set for these two periods. From October, a different calculation formula will operate, which will take into account the price of oil on the exchange, which is lower now, and the purchase prices for Moldovagaz will decrease. Another component of this formula is the average gas price over the past 9 months of the year. The growth that we see today on international exchanges will not immediately affect the citizens, the price of gas entering the country. We'll see what evolution will be like. Perhaps the current strong rise in prices will be a temporary moment, for 1-2 months, and will not have a strong impact on the average price. The current strong rise in prices will affect the tariff, but it is still incorrect to speak and speculate on this topic until the end of all discussions in detail with Gazprom. When we know the exact price, we will announce it. Of course, support will be provided for socially vulnerable categories of citizens. After signing the contract and submitting it to ANRE, the energy regulator has 6 months to decide on the new tariffs. During this period, the government will be looking for solutions on how to help the most vulnerable citizens so that they do not find themselves in a difficult situation during the heating season,” said the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development. // 17.09.2021 – InfoMarket
