Moldovagaz and Gazprom will extend for another 1 year the current contract for the supply of natural gas to Moldova by the end of September 2021.

Moldovagaz and Gazprom will extend for another 1 year the current contract for the supply of natural gas to Moldova by the end of September 2021.

This was stated by the Chairman of the Board of Moldovagaz Vadim Ceban on the air of one of the TV channels. He recalled that, under the new rules, last year the parties signed an agreement until September 30, as provided by European directives and the Law on Natural Gas in force in Moldova. “If we talk about a new contract, then, by agreement with our colleagues from Gazprom, our main supplier, by the end of the summer we must complete all the necessary procedures at the corporate level, and already pass to the signing of the document. That is, until September 30, I think that we will either have an extension of the current contract or a new one. But, most likely, given that we are still introducing the EU's Third Energy Package, this year we will also extend the agreement for one more year, until the moment when, in principle, we have already completed the process of reorganizing the entire system. But we will not be left without gas - that's for sure,” said the head of Moldovagaz. As Gazprom previously reported, the contract for the supply of Russian gas to Moldova and its transit through the country will be in effect until the end of September 2021. In December 2020, the parties signed amendments to the existing contracts for the supply and transportation of gas, extending their effect to 30 September 2021. It should be noted that in December 2006 Gazprom and Moldovagaz signed a mid-term contract for the supply of Russian gas to Moldova and its transit through the country, and upon the expiration of the document, the parties did not sign a new contract, but regularly extended the old one (since 2012). The National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) reported that on January 15 this year it approved the annex signed at the end of December 2020 by Moldovagaz and Gazprom on the extension of the contract for the purchase of gas until September 30, 2021. As noted by ANRE, the contract between the companies was extended until September 30, 2021, and thereafter, the terms of the contracts signed by Moldovagaz must correspond to the “gas year”, which, in accordance with the provisions of the Gas Networks Code, includes the period between the first gas day of October this year and the first gas day of October next year. ANRE emphasized earlier that at the same time, by the end of September 2021, Moldovagaz enterprise should complete the process of internal reorganization associated with the separation and certification of the operator of the natural gas transmission system, LLC Moldovatransgaz, which will define a new contractual scheme with the supplier – Gazprom. // 16.06.2021 - InfoMarket.
