Romania will continue to provide and mobilize concrete assistance to Moldova and provide it with support in the economy and energy security.

This was stated by Romanian President Klaus Iohannis after a meeting in Bucharest with Moldovan President Maia Sandu. According to the press service of the head of the Romanian state, the meeting between the presidents of Moldova and Romania took place in a complex regional context: the economic, social and humanitarian consequences of the war in Ukraine and significant progress on the path of Moldova's European integration as a result of obtaining the status of a candidate for joining the European Union. The political consultations of the presidents were aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation at the political, economic and sectoral levels and promoting joint projects of strategic interest in the fields of energy, transport, healthcare, education or the information society. The discussions concerned, first of all, consistent measures of support from Romania to overcome the energy crisis in Moldova. Maia Sandu thanked for the prompt measures taken by Romania to facilitate the supply of Moldovan citizens with electricity, natural gas, fuel oil and firewood. Also, the President of Moldova presented the steps taken by the country's authorities to ensure natural gas supplies in emergency mode, in order to cover consumption for the winter months, from sources alternative to the Russian Gazprom, and asked for further support from Romania. Herewith, the situation with the projects of combining the energy infrastructure of Romania and Moldova was assessed. Klaus Iohannis expressed support for the efforts of the Moldovan authorities to reform the energy system of Moldova in accordance with the commitments made in relations with the European Union. The President of Romania hailed the increase in bilateral trade by 41% in the first half of this year compared to the same period in 2021. Klaus Iohannis also noted the efforts of Romania in the field of assistance to Moldova, both through the provision of direct budgetary support, and in partnership with European partners under the auspices of Support platforms for Moldova created by Romania, France and Germany. // 01.11.2022 — InfoMarket
