The EU will soon provide Moldova with additional financial assistance in the amount of 21.4 million euros, a grant of 15 million euros, and will also find an opportunity for the early delivery of vaccines against COVID-19 - Maia Sandu.

The EU will soon provide Moldova with additional financial assistance in the amount of 21.4 million euros, a grant of 15 million euros, and will also find an opportunity for the early delivery of vaccines against COVID-19 - Maia Sandu.

The President of the country said this at a briefing on Wednesday, noting that she was assured by the representatives of the European Union and the European Commission during the meetings in Brussels, promising to increase assistance to our country through long-term bilateral programmes in the framework of the Eastern partnership for Moldova's development in the presence of reliable partners and promotion in the Republic of the agreed reforms. Maia Sandu noted that Brussels is well aware of the situation in our country, is aware of the actions taken at the end of last year by the government and the informal parliamentary majority in the interests of certain interest groups to set "traps" and "time bombs", to deprive Moldova of support and funds from the EU and other external partners. She stressed that the EU has a huge potential to help Moldova, a potential that the former leadership of the country has missed in recent years. "The EU wants to help us, to support the development of Moldova, but here it needs reliable, trusting partners. Stable management is required. Therefore, our task is to have a stable and responsible government, so that all funds are unblocked and citizens receive more assistance, " the President said. She noted that the EU wants to see real progress in the investigation of the theft of a billion and other high-profile cases, to see a real fight against corruption, which also corresponds to the interests of the citizens of our country. Maia Sandu stressed that the current parliament has completely discredited itself and there is no trust in it, it will not be able to become a stable foundation for the effective work of the new government, and therefore early elections should be held as soon as possible. According to her, the external success of the country will depend on internal progress, "cleaning" state institutions from thieves, on building a state for honest citizens, building a free and prosperous country with the support of external partners. Maia Sandu said that Brussels is aware that the informal coalition of the Socialist Party of RM and the Sor Party has created barriers to receiving substantial assistance from the West, which was intended to help farmers, small and medium-sized enterprises, doctors, and socially vulnerable categories of citizens, and now significant assistance can only be obtained if a responsible majority in parliament corrects the laws adopted by the informal coalition of the Socialist Party of RM and the Sor Party, and therefore early parliamentary elections should be held as soon as possible. The President noted that, at the same time, the EU promised to provide immediate financial assistance for the vaccination of Moldovan citizens against COVID-19, to supply additional necessary medical equipment and protective equipment. In addition, the EU promised to allocate 21.4 million euros in the near future as part of the Program to Support Police Reform, as well as to sign a new agreement on a grant in the amount of 15 million euros and allocate these funds. According to Maia Sandu, in the coming months, the European Union may decide on the framework of bilateral support for the next 7 years, as well as on the assistance that our country can receive within the framework of the Eastern Partnership. "Despite the actions of the previous irresponsible government, we will be able to build a prosperous country with the support of external partners," the President said. She also said that she would not comment on the decision of the Constitutional Court, which rejected the possibility of self-dissolution of the parliament, and would present a further plan for resolving the internal political crisis in the coming days. // 20.01.2021 — InfoMarket.
