Grand Prix will be awarded for outstanding achievements in viticulture, as part of National Wine Day 2025 to take place on October 4-5
The government adopted the decision, keeping the name of the company that will receive this traditional award this year a secret. According to the Cabinet, this award recognizes the outstanding quality of local wines and highlights the contribution to the development of national wine tourism. The award is a statuette that is presented annually to the winning company. This year, the candidate was selected by a working committee set up by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, which reviewed applications submitted by wine companies. The 24th National Wine Day will bring together 106 wine companies from all regions of the country in the Great National Assembly Square. The event brings together both well-known producers and small wineries, each of which tells its own story of work, traditions, and innovations. Visitors will be able to discover wines that are not available in regular stores, talk to winemakers, and enjoy an authentic experience in an atmosphere that combines Moldovan culture, gastronomy, and hospitality. At the Wine School, sommeliers and oenologists will hold interactive classes on local varieties such as Feteasca Alba, Feteasca Regala, Feteasca Neagra, and Rara Neagra, talk about special aromas, the characteristics of wine-producing regions, and how to properly evaluate wine. At the Peasant Farmstead, visitors will be able to experience traditions firsthand by participating in master classes on pottery, weaving, sculpture, or folk dancing in an atmosphere that brings the authentic rural spirit back to the city center. This year, admission tickets are available exclusively in digital format, which helps reduce the environmental impact and organize the event more efficiently. The “Taster's Book” includes a biodegradable glass, discounts, and access to the full festival program, valid for two days. The celebration will extend beyond Chisinau, with many wineries opening their doors to visitors. Ten producers have prepared special programs with themed tours, tastings, and cultural events at wineries and vineyards, and some of them offer free transportation to guests. The importance of wine for Moldova was highlighted by the scale of the events organized this year. For the first time, Moldova hosted the World Wine Congress, which brought together international experts, producers, researchers, and decision-makers from around the world, providing our country with an unprecedented platform for dialogue and increased visibility in the global wine industry. Also this year, Chisinau hosted the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, one of the most prestigious international competitions, where Moldovan wines were evaluated alongside world-renowned brands, strengthening their reputation for quality and sophistication. Moldova won 21 medals at this prestigious sparkling wine competition—5 gold and 16 silver—which is international recognition of the efforts made over the past decade. In the first eight months of this year, Moldova exported Moldovan wines to 65 countries. At the same time, 59% of wines are exported to EU countries. Romania remains the main market for bottled wines, where exports increased by 26% compared to the same period last year, while shipments to the Netherlands grew by 4%. Impressive dynamics are witnessed in Nigeria, which entered the top 10 largest export destinations, showing a 141% increase compared to 2024. As noted by the Ministry of Agriculture, National Wine Day is a celebration of Moldova's cultural and economic identity.
