From June 16 to 20, Moldova will host the World Congress of Vine and Wine for the first time, thus becoming the world capital of wine
This is the largest international event in the vine and wine sector, held annually by the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV). This year's event will take place from June 16 to 20 at the Palace of the Republic in Chisinau, bringing together more than 150 experts from 51 countries. This will be the 46th congress, gathering experts, scientists, winegrowers, oenologists, producers, and politicians from 51 participating countries to discuss the future of the wine industry. The main theme of the event is “Shaping the Future of Wine: Embracing Resilience, Enhancing Value, Fostering Innovation.” The congress will feature scientific sessions dedicated to current challenges facing the industry and the search for solutions. The congress will become a true intellectual hub, where more than 300 topics of global importance will be discussed. The congress will feature four panel discussions with the participation of about 150 experts and researchers: Viticulture: sustainable practices for preserving ecosystems; Oenology: adaptive and innovative technologies for sustainable winemaking; Economics and law: adding value — sustainable business models and efficient supply chains; Safety and health: nutrition, care, and well-being. OIV Director General John Barker noted that the wine industry should focus on three key areas: sustainability, value, and innovation. “This means being resilient in the face of climate and economic challenges, promoting quality and authenticity, and innovating to meet the demands of a dynamic market. This is not just a strategy, it is a commitment to the future of the industry,” he said. Congress participants will also have the opportunity to learn about Moldovan wine culture, with tours of wineries, tastings, and networking events highlighting the authenticity of local wines. Among the forum's goals are the development of sustainable viticulture practices, the introduction of innovative technologies, and the construction of a robust economic model for the industry. “Hosting the World Congress of Vine and Wine in Moldova is a unique opportunity to showcase our wine traditions and impressive progress to the world. It is a chance to learn from the best and share our experience in adapting to climate change and modernizing production processes,” said Stefan Iamandi, director of the National Office of Vine and Wine of Moldova (ONVV). According to him, the congress will be a step towards recognizing Moldova as an important wine-producing country, will contribute to the creation of new partnerships, and will strengthen Moldova's image on the map of quality wines. The event is organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and the ONVV. Moldova has been a member of the International Organization of Vine and Wine since April 3, 2001, becoming the first CIS country to join the OIV. In 2024, the organization will celebrate its 100th anniversary, and the congress in Chisinau will mark the beginning of its second century of activity. Thanks to its membership in the OIV, Moldova is eligible for grants to conduct national and international research, attract leading global scientists to address pressing issues in the industry, and exchange experience and learn advanced foreign technologies. // 14.05.2025 – InfoMarket.
