The Japanese government will provide Moldova with $600 thousand to strengthen cybersecurity in the justice system

The funding will be provided as part of a new project, “Enhancing Cybersecurity Resilience in the Republic of Moldova’s Critical Sectors,” which is funded by the Japanese government and implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The project targets key institutions in the justice sector and will run until March 2026. According to UNDP, the beneficiaries of this assistance will be the Moldovan Ministry of Justice, the Agency for Digitalization in the Justice Sector, and the National Institute of Justice, which will receive new IT equipment. In addition, a cybersecurity audit will be conducted at the National Institute of Justice, and training and courses will be organized for IT staff from all these institutions. Another component of the project is the development of professional opportunities in the justice system. Training needs will be assessed and awareness-raising programs on the importance of cybersecurity will be implemented, along with specialized training for IT staff. “The Ministry of Justice manages a complex digital system that supports justice reform, one of the key elements of Moldova's European integration. The growing use of digital technologies brings significant benefits in terms of efficiency and access to services, but also increased cybersecurity risks. Investment in modern infrastructure, high-performance equipment, and robust security policies are crucial to our protection against emerging threats,” said Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov Moraru. Japanese Ambassador to Moldova Yoichiro Yamada expressed his country's commitment to supporting judicial reform in Moldova, as it is extremely important for Moldova's development as a democratic country. “Sustained progress in judicial reform will be a key factor in attracting more investment and creating a healthy business environment,” he said. UNDP Resident Representative in Moldova Daniela Gasparikova emphasized that the project will contribute to the creation of a more secure and effective justice management system that is better prepared for the digital challenges of the future, and that strategic partnerships and smart investments will ensure the security of public services and citizens of Moldova. // 12.05. 2025 — InfoMarket
