The preliminary financing for Moldova under the Growth Plan has been increased by €200 million to more than €300 million to be disbursed in April, Siegfried Muresan said

The statement was made by Romanian MEP, co-chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for the Moldova-EU Association, co-reporter of the European Parliament on the 1.9-billion-euro Growth Plan for Moldova. He stressed that the European Parliament on March 11 finally approved the €1.9 billion Growth Plan, the biggest support instrument in Moldova's history. “As the European Parliament's chief negotiator on this issue, I am very happy that we got the final vote on this document and the money will come to Moldova soon,” Siegfried Muresan said. According to him, after 3 months of negotiations, the EU structures came to an agreement on this support mechanism, which includes 3 very important things for Moldova. “First, we managed to approve this mechanism faster than other similar legislative documents. Thus, the funds will be disbursed for Moldova already in April. Secondly, we managed to increase the pre-financing for Moldova by 200 million euros. These are the funds that will be allocated to Moldova soon after the mechanism enters into force. Under my proposal, we succeeded in increasing the pre-financing from 7% to 18%, which means an increase in the value of pre-financing by more than €200 million, to more than €300 million. Thirdly, we have also succeeded in increasing total funding by €100 million, from €1.8 billion to €1.9 billion. These 100 million euros also include an assistance of 60 million euros for the Transnistrian region, announced by the European Commission in January 2025,” Siegfried Muresan emphasized. For her part, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said that the Growth Plan for Moldova, approved by the European Parliament, is a strong vote of confidence in Moldova's European future. “The plan envisages the allocation of 1.9 billion euros to double Moldova's economy by the end of the decade, which confirms Moldova's firm determination to join our Union,” she stressed. // 11.03.2025 - InfoMarket
